past Sunday. We had to scratch Saturdays trip with them due to the wind rocking and rolling Richland Chambers with gusts from the North up to 35 miles an hour. We fished two boats with them and ended up catching a

couple coolers of white bass. The day started out a little slow due to the morning temperatures in the high thirties, but as the temps got up a bit the fish started to bite well. Most of our fish were caught in 20 to 25 foot of water off of points and humps. A large percentage of these fish are still full of eggs.

Joe Reid with a nice mess of shallow water crappie!

Joe and i fished hard this past Monday and had twenty good sized keeper crappie up in the shallow water. We were blessed with great weather, great company, and great fishing.

For those of you that might be interested in a guided fishing trip with us, the fishing season is just now getting kicked off so give us a call or email us.
Thanks again,
Adam and Royce Simmons

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://gonefishinnews.blogspot.com/2009/03/what-week-on-richland-chambers.html' title='What a week on Richland Chambers! for Gone Fishin Guide Service. We've already started off the first two days of fishing with morning and afternoon trips each day for both of our boats. Thanks So Very much to everyone that is fishing with us this week.

Today(March 17th) was a bit of a slow start for my first crappie trip of the season with customers. We ended up back on the main lake fishing for white bass due to the slow crappie bite, which was caused by this past weekends heavy rains and cold temps. The crappie should be moving back to the shallows very soon though with the warming trend we are having.

The white bass did not dissapoint at all. During the afternoon's trip we ended up keeping around 50 good sized whites and throwing back twice that amount because they were too small. Dozens of small hybrids were caught today as well.

Spring Break is here!

This week is an extremely busy week on the lake for Gone Fishin Guide Service. Dozens of small hybrids were caught today as well.

March Fishing Report

Adam and I always look forward to March as it signals that Spring is here, fish begin to bite more aggressively, and we're usually on the Lake six days a week! March gets everyone excited about getting on the lake again! It's especially exciting for us as we get to fish with a LOT of Kiddos and Families that take a "Spring Break" Trip! Over 50% of our Trips in March are with Kids!!! Most Texas Schools have their Spring Breaks at the same time, but the Colleges vary from School to School. So we have Kids from the Texas Public Schools one week, College Kids at a different time and even a few Out of State Families that come to Richland Chambers to start the Spring! White Bass and Kids are made for each other! The Whites will still be in the deeper water in the Main Lake area. The Windsock Point, Pelican Island, and the Long Arm Branch are all good areas to start your search. Drop a RSR Chartruse or Silver Glitter Slab off the Points and Humps in 25'-35' water and bounce it along the bottom. Watch for the Gulls and if you're new to the Lake, find those areas where you have a few other folks fishing, and join them. Adam will begin conducting some Spring Crappie Trips this month, and the action normally gets more consistent and better as we move into mid March & April. The Creeks and Coves we have fished in the past are out of water this year versus being extremely high last Spring, but you can bet the Crappie will adapt and not miss the opportunity to Spawn in the shallows. Small minnows below bobbers is a tried and proven method, but Adam likes to Jig Fish. Both methods will put some of the "Best Eating Fish" in the Lake in the Icechest. Almost all the fish species will be on a more aggressive bite as we begin the Spring. Don't miss the opportunity to get out and enjoy God's Creation! We'll be conducting Morning & Afternoon Trips to acommodate as many Folks as possible. If you have questions, want to take a Fishing Trip, or just need a current Fishing Report, give us a call at 903-389-4117. Thanks and Have A Great March!

The crappie have started their spawn.

The crappie bite turned on Monday up in the shallow waters. The last few trips have produced some nice catches of quality size White Bass. I have heard of a few catches of large Hybrid Stripers, but we've not been able to find any that were of legal size. However, based on the number of small Hybrids we've been catching, the future looks good for the Hybrid population. We've been catching most of our fish in water depths that are a bit surprising! We've caught fish as deep as 50' with the majority coming in the 35'-45' range. We're using a 1 oz. Silver Glitter Minnow Slab ( www.rsrlures.com ) and tying a small jig about two foot above the Slab. About half the fish are coming on the jig! Check out the Windsock Point as it's been as productive an area as any place on the lake for us. The reason the fish have been in this area and as deep as they are is the tremendous amount of baitfish that's congregated along the deep dropoffs on the Windsock Point. For those of you who like to catch and eat Catfish, you'll find plenty of them in the same areas as we're finding the White Bass. Some really large Blue Cats are caught every year in the Winter & early Spring months on Richland Chambers. If you can fish on a nice breezy (not Windy) day and drift over the Main Lake Humps and Points in the 35'-45' water range, you'll usually find some cooperative fish. Small perch, shad or shrimp will get you a bite! As you're reading this, the Crappie will be nearing their spawn time. Mid March thru early May is the time to hit the banks and shallow water using small minnows or jigs below a slip cork. Adam is our Crappie expert and likes this time of the year more than any other! If you're looking to fill the freezer with some tasty Crappie filets, give him a call to see if they're biting yet! Spring is near and the fishing on RC will be AWESOME!!! If you're planning a Spring Break, just want to get rid of the Wintertime Cabin Fever, or want to get the Friends and Family on the Lake, give us a call at 903-389-4117. We fish Morning and Afternoon Trips in the Spring and fish everyday except Sunday! We caught over 50 white bass that were bustin at the seams, full of eggs. Now is the time of year to have the opportunity to catch some 'big sow' white bass. They sometimes gain up to half pound or more over their normal weight in preparation for the springtime spawning run. These big 'Sandies' can be caught all the way through the month of April before they are completely spawned out. The fun doesnt end there though, as these post spawn fish go on a feeding frenzy to rebuild some of that lost energy and weight during the spawn.

Fishing Report for February 9th 2009!!!

Fellow Fishermen & Fisherwomen, Not much to report from this last week's activity as the STRONG WINDS kept us off the Lake during the Thursday-Saturday period. The Weekend before and the first of last week produced some nice catches of White Bass. One of our Guide Friends also reported that the Hybrid Stripers had also turned on for a few days. We weren't fishing in the area where the Hybrids came from so no news from us on that account, but usually when the Whites get going , the Hybrid Stripers do too! As of this writing, we're getting some much needed rain in the RC area. Hopefully, the next couple of days will live up to the forecast of a couple of inches total to fall on us! The Lake is almost 5' low, but as Adam reminded me the other day...one of his best Spring Crappie Seasons occurred a couple of years ago with Lake conditions as they are now. He just had to look in different locations depending on the Lake level. The Crappie should turn on by mid to late March and then be very good fishing for at least six weeks. Couple of reminders: * We've offering $75 per person fishing trip thru February! Hopefully the bite we had last week will just get better and we don't get any of the severe Cold Fronts that can change the activity. Give us a call as we have lots of openings the remainder of February. If you do book a trip and the weather turns bad, you're under no obligation to take the trip. Cold or Rain is not FUN! * Our March calendar still has plenty of Weekdays open and a few Saturday slots open. We have at least one boat open most of the Spring Break days...March 16th-March 21st. We consider March the start of our Spring Fishing Season and we're usually on the Lake six days a week. If you want one of those days, write us a note or give us a call. * April has quite a few Weekdays open, but here's the few Saturday openings we still have available....18th & 25th, we have one boat open in the Afternoon. Great fishing in the AM & PM in April!!! Wish we had more "Catchin" to report, but not many folks call in February call to fish. If the temperatures stay as they are now, we may have the earliest Spring in a few years, and the Fishing good from now till next Winter! Let's hope so!!!
